In October last year, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is a syndrome characterised by chronic pain, fatigue, brain fog and a host of other seemingly “random” symptoms. I have been on my healthful journey since before I got my diagnosis, “Fibromyalgia” is just a label to put on something I have been experiencing for the last six years, and this experience has been something that has driven me to my journey of becoming a Holistic GP.
I believe that chronic conditions such as Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, and many other chronic conditions are the product of a society where we have become disconnected from our bodies, and from what really matters in health. I also believe that these illnesses can come about by mismanagement of patient needs by healthcare professionals who operate in a system that emphasises quick fixes, antibiotics for all, and which focusses on putting a band aid over symptoms, rather than getting to the root cause of illness.
This is why I am taking my own journey to become a doctor, but also why you may see some posts on here about chronic illness and fibromyalgia, in amongst the recipes and fitness tips. I am working on a project that will help fibromyalgics and other chronic pain sufferers come together to be empowered, and to empower the healthcare system to change its ways, and ensure that these illnesses are treated properly; that these patients are treated professionally; and that healthcare providers start to step up to work for a more holistic understanding of health in order to prevent these kinds of issues in the first place.ॐ K
